The sacrificial Engineer from Prometheus

There’s been rumours for a while about a (partially) different storyline for the Ridley Scott movie Prometheus, and earlier this week, a fan site managed to get hold of an early draft of a script for the film.

The leaked script reveals a few plot points and alien creatures that weren’t to be seen in the completed version of the film. The script, titled Alien: Engineers, was written by Jon Spaihts, who had writing duties on Prometheus before Damon Lindelof took over.

So, what sort of plot details and aliens did we not get to see in the final version? Facehuggers and plot twists that involved alien parasites.

Spaihts himself has confirmed that the script is “authentic”, taking to Twitter last Sunday to settle the rumours about the origins of the leaked script. Also speaking to Wired, Spaihts said that he wasn’t saddened by the leak: “The interest in the script speaks, more than anything, to their love of the film and the Alien universe,” said Spaihts . “It’s really just an aspect of their fandom for the larger universe and owes much more to Ridley Scott than to me.”

Prometheus was received with mixed feelings amongst Alien fans; I liked it, and enjoyed looking more into the Alien universe. With a sequel underway, I kinda like the idea of not bringing the Alien creatures more into the foreground, and instead moving the story into the realm of the Engineers, and their story.
